Dyson Sphere Program – Review

To infinity and beyond…

If you have OCD, like me, this game is going to kill you… so lock the family outside and turn off your phone because this will take up all of your time… Dyson Sphere Program (DSP) is a sci-fi simulation game in space where adventure, exploration and factory automation is your bread and butter, basically, you are building your own galactic industrial empire (in my best Darth Vader voice).

DSP is set in the distant future where science and technology have allowed the human race to progress into a new age where space and time do not constrain progress thanks to virtual reality. With the development of a supercomputer and its artificial intelligence, that will push humanity even further! One problem: there is not enough energy to run the computer… Typical!!!

TITLE: Dyson Sphere Program

GENRE: Indie, Simulation, Strategy, Early Access

DEVELOPER: Youthcat Studio

PUBLISHER: Gamera Game

RELEASED: 20 Jan, 2021

COST: R 130.00 (Steam)

So, the story begins… you are a space engineer, tasked with constructing a Dyson Spheres!!! (a huge megastructure that orbits a star, collecting all its power and energy) to send back to the home world.

It’s like a multi-verse

The universe in DSP is vast consisting of neutron stars, white dwarfs, red giants, gaseous and rocky planets… Each offering varied and unique resources just waiting to be plundered… Muhahaha… (cough, sorry about that).

With this vast choice of universes each playthrough will feel unique as you get to choose which universe you would like to automate for the home world. You will have to manage, thrive and build your Spheres, no matter what the universe or your wife throws at you! I mean I tried to play DSP and accidentally spent +250 hours on it! (Still in the dog box)

Name of the Game!…

In DSP, you need to basically design your own interstellar factories and production lines, so that you don’t need to micromanage everything in your solar system. You will need to transport materials from one planet to another and by doing this, form an interstellar highway for the transport of materials all over your universe.

Then on each planet, your resources are transported on conveyor belts… and this is where your OCD will kick in, as mine did… spending hours trying to make a planet look like the Death Star!

What’s a Mecha to do?…

Build a galactic industrial empire

Develop your very own Dyson Spheres,

Explore a vast universe with with all kinds of celestial bodies: neutron stars, white dwarfs, red giants…

Gather resources on planets of all types

Research new technologies

Enhance mecha

Transport materials across the galaxy to your facilities

Design the most efficient automated factory and production line

Customize your factory and Dyson Sphere to make it unique

Design a balanced power network

Sci-fi-rific!…

The Dev team only consisted of five people from Chongqing, China. Their love of sci-fi, helped them create the Dyson Sphere Program. Let’s hope this small team builds and grown this genre of game as I enjoyed every second of playing this game. You can find it of Steam for PC and at a price (R130.00 RSA) that makes me wonder how the Dev’s made such a beautiful and complete game.
